Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

General

What is an office pod?

An office pod is a freestanding, enclosed workspace designed to provide acoustic privacy and visual separation within an open-plan office. Pods range from compact 1-person phone booths for calls and focused work to multi-person meeting pods for team collaboration. They are typically equipped with ventilation, lighting, and power, and can be installed without construction or permanent modifications.

What is the difference between an office pod and a traditional meeting room?

A traditional meeting room is built into the building structure — it requires construction, permits, and permanent floor space. An office pod is a self-contained unit that can be installed in hours, relocated if needed, and placed in open-plan areas without construction. Pods are typically used for quick calls, focused work, and small meetings rather than full-day use.

Are office pods soundproof or just sound-reducing?

Office pods are not completely soundproof — no enclosure is. They are designed for speech-level noise reduction, meaning they block the sound of normal conversation from escaping or entering. Our pods achieve 30dB+ speech reduction, verified through ISO 23351-1 testing. This means a normal conversation inside the pod is reduced to a whisper outside, and vice versa.

Can office pods be used outdoors?

Standard office pods are designed for indoor use. If you need an outdoor-rated enclosure, contact us to discuss custom specifications including weatherproofing, drainage, and UV-resistant materials.

Acoustic Performance

What does “30dB speech reduction” actually mean?

30dB speech reduction means the pod reduces normal conversation volume to approximately whisper level. In practical terms: a phone call inside the pod cannot be understood by someone sitting immediately outside. This level of reduction meets ISO 23351-1 Class A/B standards for office pod acoustic performance.

What is ISO 23351-1?

ISO 23351-1 is the international standard for measuring acoustic performance of office pods. It tests the complete pod — walls, door, ventilation, and seals — as a single unit, rather than testing individual components. A pod that passes ISO 23351-1 testing has verified real-world acoustic performance. We provide test reports for all our pod models.

Does adding ventilation or other features reduce acoustic performance?

Prodec office pods are designed so that ventilation, electrical, and other integrated features do not compromise the acoustic seal. All pods are tested as complete units — with all features installed — to verify rated performance.

Can I upgrade the acoustic rating of a standard pod?

For projects requiring higher acoustic performance, we offer enhanced sealing, thicker acoustic panels, and upgraded door gaskets. Contact us to discuss your acoustic target and we’ll recommend the appropriate configuration.

Size & Selection

How do I choose the right pod size for my office?

Start with the primary use case. For individual calls and focused work, a 1-person pod is sufficient. For one-on-one meetings or interviews, a 2-person pod works well. For team stand-ups and small meetings, a 4-person pod is recommended. For larger meetings or presentations, choose a 6-person pod. Consider both the number of users and the typical meeting duration.

How many pods does an office need?

A common starting point is one pod per 10–15 employees for phone booths, plus one meeting pod per 20–25 employees. The right number depends on your office layout, meeting culture, and whether employees have access to traditional meeting rooms. We offer free space planning consultations to help you determine the optimal configuration.

What is the footprint of a standard pod?

A 1-person pod typically occupies approximately 1m². A 2-person pod is roughly 2m². A 4-person pod is approximately 4m², and a 6-person pod is approximately 6m². Custom sizes are available for spaces with specific constraints.

Can pods be placed on any floor surface?

Prodec office pods are designed for standard office flooring — carpet, vinyl, laminate, or concrete. No special floor preparation or anchoring is required for standard installation. For raised flooring or unusual surfaces, contact us for guidance.

Installation & Setup

How long does installation take?

Standard pod installation takes under an hour. Our modular design means pods arrive partially pre-assembled and are completed on-site with basic tools. No construction, no dust, and no disruption to your office.

Do I need an electrician to install a pod?

Office pods plug into a standard wall socket (110V or 230V depending on your region). All internal wiring for lighting, ventilation, and power outlets is pre-installed at the factory. If you need additional power points or data connections, those can be integrated during manufacturing.

Do office pods require planning permission or permits?

In most cases, no. Office pods are classified as furniture, not permanent construction. They typically do not require building permits or planning permission. However, requirements vary by region — we recommend checking with your local authority for large-scale installations.

Can pods be relocated after installation?

Prodec pods are designed for relocation. With the optional mobility kit, pods can be moved without disassembly. For larger pods, partial disassembly may be required for relocation through narrow doorways or corridors.

Warranty & Support

What warranty do you offer?

We offer a 5-year structural warranty covering the frame, panels, and door assembly. Electrical components (ventilation, lighting, power modules) carry a 2-year warranty. Full warranty terms are provided with every order.

What does the warranty cover?

The warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship under normal use. It does not cover normal wear and tear, damage from misuse, or modifications made without our written consent. Full terms are included in the warranty documentation.

How do I get replacement parts?

Prodec pods use modular components designed for easy replacement. We stock spare parts — including door gaskets, ventilation modules, lighting units, and panel connectors — for a minimum of 10 years. Contact our support team with your pod model and serial number.

Is there a maintenance schedule?

We recommend a simple maintenance check every 6 months: clean or replace ventilation filters, inspect door gaskets for wear, and verify that all electrical connections are secure. A detailed maintenance guide is included with every pod and available in our downloads section.
